New Year’s Eve Party Flare

31 Dec

Being a procrastinator myself, I thought I would share some last minute party decorations you can do at home and soem printable paper decorations you can get striaght out of your computer. Now how is that for convenience?

I have been scouring the blogosphere looking for easy decorating ideas for the upcoming festivities. I found some adorable choices. Thank goodness for those bloggers out there who are on top of things to help us who tend to lag behind (eh-hem…me) lol.

May You be thankful for last year’s blessings and look forward to those to come!

Back in Black

30 Dec

Hello! I am back on the internet! Woo Hoo! Our router went ka-pooey Christmas Eve, and we just got a new one up and running thank goodness. It was nice to be shut off from the world for a little bit, but then after the first day I was ready for my Skype, Netflixs, Facebook, etc. So, it’s good to be back!

Thank you so much to my good friend over at for helping a sister out in her time of need! I just love her so much! 🙂

Have you noticed the dainty blouses with the feminine scarves attached to the collar? They are popping up everywhere theses days. I think they are just so cute. The funny thing is, I remember my Mom wearing pretty blouses like this when I was young. Fashion is like a revolving door, constantly coming around full circle. Now I am adorning the same style many years later (not too many) 😉

I simply tied an old lace sash around one of my black collared shirts to create the look. So if you have any old scarves or sashes lying around to snazz-up your  shirt, you can try it yourself!

Just the way the cookie crumbles

Just the way the cookie crumbles

Hi there! I’m Marian! I blog over at and I’m guest posting for my bestie Amanda today because her internet connection is down which = no internet/blogging, and of course no netflix! The horror people! As I like to say,  it’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

So, I’m here to say hi for Amanda, and Share just a few (because Lord knows there’s many) of our things we like to do together.

Besides calling each other multiple times a day only to get off track every other minute

Or complain how our bodies never seem to work right and fail us all the time

Or our love hate relationship with working out (mostly we don’t)

Or our obsession with re telling stories. People may think we over exaggerate I say we see things differently, More a long the lines of hilarious !

One thing for sure is we love tea! It’s a must when we get together.

We mostly like sweet. Were you surprised?

Another must with our tea you ask? Cookies! and almond milk, soymilk or just any non dairy milk.

Another thing we have in common is our amazing ability to be totally oblivious to anything and everything around us. Like today for instance, I discovered I’ve been carrying around an old avocado in my purse for the last week. Pure talent people.

And because we are all obsessed with anything Amanda I leave you with Banana Oatmeal chocolate chip Cookies that I gave to Amanda and Evan tonight and they loved them! They are (gluten Free, Vegan and sugar free)

You can get the recipe at my blog  under Peace on earth good cookies to men.

God Bless! Have a wonderful Thursday, and lets hope they get their internet back soon!

Mocha Chocolate Chip Vegan Muffins

23 Dec

I have been wanting to make this Mocha Chocolate Chip Muffin recipe for a while now.  I have been looking for a reason to use my little instant coffee starbucks packets before they expire, and not to mention I LOVE chocolate chip muffins. Since my hubby started his CHRISTmas break from work, I thought it would be a perfect time to make them. This way I won’t be stuck with them in the house all day long without supervision. Baked goods tend to disapear quite rapidly when left in my care 🙂 He and I both thought they were mighty tasty!  E suggested that next time I put some icing on them and disguise them as cupcakes, which you very well could do. They would be delicious either way you present them!  Now let me warn you, these little babies are RICH. They basically taste like a semi-sweet chocolate bar, which is why they only lasted two days in my house! YUM!

This recipe is from the amazing cookbook Vegan With a Vengeance by Isa Chandra Moscowitz, but I actually found it on The Second Lunch blog. You should check out the site.

Vegan Mocha Chocolate Chip Muffins
from the cook book ‘Vegan With a Vengeance
by Isa Chandra Moscowitz

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cups sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons instant coffee powder (or 2 Via Starbucks Packets*)
1 cup soy milk
1/2 cup canola oil
3 tablespoons soy yogurt*
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I added a little more hee hee)

(Makes 12 muffins)

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line tin with cupcake liners.

2. Sift together dry ingredients separately : flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Then add the instant coffee powder or in my case Starbucks Via Packets.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together  wet ingredients : soy milk, oil, yogurt, and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, and whisk until moistened. Mix in the chocolate chips.

4. Fill the muffin cups three-quarters full. Bake 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick or knife inserted into the center of one comes out clean.

**SIDE NOTE: If you don’t have instant coffee,  you can just add more cocoa powder and make it extra chocolately. Also if you want to make regular muffins (not vegan) just use regular milk instead of soy and an egg instead of the soy yogurt.

I used two medium roast packets because that is what I had.

If you try a different flavor I would love to

hear how they turn out. I think I will

use a stronger blend next time.

Ready to bake up some delicious

chocolately goodness!

I added a little powdered sugar for
a festive look.

Wish List Wednesday

21 Dec

I LOVE bold prints and colors, however I usually steer clear from pants or jackets with big prints for fear that everyone will notice the clothing item  EVERY time I wear it, making me feel like I can only wear it a few times. Do you know what I mean? If someone sees you wear your leopard pants more than twice, you will probably become “Leopard Pants Girl”. “Here comes crazy “Leopard Pants” with her pants all leopardy.” Well ya know what, I’ve decided there are worse things we could be called right? Right! I’m gonna get me some fun printed pants! 🙂 Here are a few that struck my fancy…

Crochet Beanie with a Big Ol’ Flower

19 Dec

I am pretty excited about this beanie. You see, this is the first beanie I have made that I will wear outside my house! My other attempts turned out a little wonky ha ha. I guess it’s true… practice makes perfect! I really have enjoyed learning to crochet. I love to make things with my hands. The great thing about crocheting is, if you mess up, it’s no biggie, just give that yarn a few tug-a-roos and start over!  I am still very slow at this, so I won’t post a video of me making it. You would be watching it for days! I’ll save the video tutorials to a more skilled crocheter!  For your convenience, the tutorials I used to make my beanie are posted below!

I used a  Caron Simply Soft 4 ply yarn in Grey Heather, and I unfortunately

lost the label to my teal color, but both were purchased

from Michael’s. (On sale of course) 🙂

Here are the videos I used for help.

BobWilson123 and Art of Crochet by Teresa are my go-to

girls for crochet help.  You can find more of their tutorials on YouTube.

I’d love to see your beenies!

Give it a try!

Dressed to a Tea

15 Dec

Bow Headband- hand made from a local boutique

Black V-Neck longline shirt- Express

Floral Ruffle Tunic- Charlotte Russe

Black pleather leggings- Forever21

Black Glitz Bow Flats- Forever21

I didn’t pull out the big flowery hat for tea, but I did flaunt my extra sparkly bow for an extra girly gathering!  A couple of my close friends and I met at Penelope’s Tea Room for some tasty treats! Penelope’s Tea Room is beyond cute with it’s floral wall paper and antique furniture. It’s like you step into your Grandmother’s house when you walk through the front door!  With so many delicious teas to choose from, it took us a little bit to decide which ones to get. White chocolate Mousse was by far my favorite! It’s like a warm, rich cup of desert!

Isn’t the tea pot coozie the cutest thing!

Cute things seem to taste better don’t they? :0)

We finished with some delicious cupcakes I brought in. What a sweet ending to our afternoon tea!

Christmas Bows

12 Dec

After visiting a few baby boutiques in the past week, I was really inspired to make some festive hair bows. Christmas hair bows, though very cute, can be a little pricey for my liking. I saw bow after bow of glittery gorgeousness, but at $6.50 a pop I decided to give it a go on my own to get more bang for my buck!  Michael’s had some great deals on ribbon. You can’t beat 50 cents a spool! I picked up a few buttons and gems, and went to town with my glue gun! They turned out soooo cute!

Now if only I could get my little one to keep them in her hair for more

than two seconds ha ha.

Crafty Christmas

9 Dec

My good friend Gina is in town visiting me from Florida, Hoorayyy!  When she told me she was coming to visit I starting thinking of some fun things we could do (I like to plan). I knew we definitely had to visit a little Danish village called Solvang. You see my friend Gina loves Christmas, I mean REALLY LOVES Christmas, so I knew we had to visit the little village that would be totally decked out in holiday decor! There was literally a Christmas tree in front of every store. It was fantastic!

While we were there we had to stop by one of my favorite stores in Solvang called KnitFit. Oh My is it cute in there! I always get inspired as I wander though the shop! My favorite thing about the store is the creative centers they have set up all over. You can get in there and get your hands dirty … or  in our case should I say glittery 🙂  Today one of the tables were set up for customers to make sparkly personalized Christmas tags and painted glass ornaments, such cute ideas.

Here is a glass ornament one of the crafty ladies made with paint pens.

The table was filled with stamps, paint, glitter, and a

bunch of other goodies to make Christmas decorations.

This monster-sized snowflake stamp will definitely

be on my Christmas list! They made some gorgeous

decorations by useing the stamp dipped in ink and

 Martha Stewart Glitter.

I have so many projects to add to my to-do list after our

visit today. I’m going to need to win the lottery to

do them all. lol

Ostrich Farm

7 Dec

The hills may be alive, but it’s not with the sound of music…

these hills are alive with ostriches!

We have driven by the ostrich farm many times before, but for some reason this time we felt inclined to stop and see what all the hub-bub was about. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. From the looks of the rinky-dink shack you pull up to, I was a little leery as to what we were getting ourselves into. Well as the saying goes, don’t judge an ostrich farm by it’s souvenir shop lol!

We purchased two bowls of ostrich food and headed out to feed the freakishly oversized birds also known as ostriches.  I have to admit I was slightly terrified that they were going to bite my hand off… or my head.

The birds turned out to be really cool, in a creepy  velociraptor kind of way. Ha Ha. They were pretty entertaining when you took a minute to watch them interact. Finnley wasn’t to impressed with them though. She would rather eat the food pellets herself than watch us feed them to the ostriches.

We were having a swell time until an air born ostrich feather flew into my mouth…that was my cue to leave!

We decided to hitch a ride home on some ostriches 🙂
